Jackson was named to the all-district first team and is eligible for All-America accolades, while Clifford was placed on the all-district second team. Jackson, a Baytown native and Nursing major with a 3.93 cumulative grade point average, made the successful transition to the libero position this season after being one of the team's primary outside hitters over the last three years. The three-year captain, who was also named an All-American Southwest Conference Second Team selection today, ranked second in the league with 5.07 digs per set. She also led the Tornados in total digs (546) this season and will graduate ranked third in digs (1,263), fourth in service aces (104) and seventh in kills (562) during the program's ASC and NCAA Division III era which began in 1999. In addition, Jackson is a two-time ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete recipient and ASC Fall Academic Honor Roll member. Clifford is a sophomore Director of Christian Education major with a 4.00 cumulative grade point average who has been a starting middle blocker since her freshman season. A native of Magnolia, Clifford has been one of the team's top blockers over the past two years and ranked second on the team in the category this season with 71 to go along with 142 kills and a .204 hitting percentage. Like Jackson, her efforts in the classroom were a major reason why Concordia was the only ASC school to be named an AVCA All-Academic Team. Clifford has also found success as a member of the track & field team at Concordia and holds the school record of 4-feet, 11-inches in the high jump. Concordia has placed nine student-athletes on the all-district academic teams, which are chosen by CoSIDA members. The announcements of Olivia Jablinski and Amanda Tarpley earning the honor in women's soccer as well as Jackson and Clifford being recognized in volleyball mark the first two times in school history that two players from the same team won the award. Concordia's volleyball and women's soccer programs were each one of just two ASC schools to have multiple selections this year. Notes: Concordia's four Capital One Academic All-District selections - Emma Clifford, Olivia Jablinski, Kevyn Jackson and Amanda Tarpley - during the 2011-12 academic year to date rank tied for second overall and tied for first among non-football schools in the 16-member American Southwest Conference. -agate- Concordia University Texas' Academic All-District Honorees Baseball Colin Butschek (2010, 2nd Team) Men's Basketball Reza Farahani (2010, 1st Team) Women's Basketball Kerrie Carter (2010, 1st Team Men's Soccer Brian Friend (2009, 1st Team) Women's Soccer Olivia Jablinski (2011, 2nd Team) Amanda Tarpley (2011, 2nd Team) Softball Lauren Vansickle (2010, 2nd Team) Volleyball Emma Clifford (2011, 2nd Team) Kevyn Jackson (2011, 1st Team) |
