I just realized that I never posted anything about swim team this summer!
Well, they all did great! The twynns started out getting disqualified every race, but we were just excited that they made it across the pool. Then they got their first time in the free style. THEN they got their first time in the back stroke!! Not THAT was an accomplishment! The next thing Adam and Jenna did was use their arms in the freestyle. Jenna knocked over a minute off her time! It is amazing how far those 2 kiddos have come!
Paige and Abby did great, too! They were in the same age class, so there were a few times that they actually swam in the same heat! They added some relays to their events. It looked like the back was Paige's natural stroke, but then she got better at the free and even competed in the breast. Abby was consistently faster than Paige every meet. And I think that was good for Paige to remember that Abby is older (and faster) than her!
Then there is Hannah. As always, she seemed to have a natural ability to do the sport. And when she swims, she just seemed so smooth and controlled. She is fun to watch! Throughout the season, she moved into higher heats and every week cut her time down. Then she won a couple of heats, beat a girl that is ranked pretty high, and even got her first team point. And then came the last meet (which Arti & Stratton got to see!). After she finished her first event, she said to me, "Mama, it felt like I was flying!" That girl kicked some butt!!! Not only did she win her heats, she actually got 5 points for her team with 3 or 4 events! AND she qualified for County! Of course, she could not go because of her trip to Texas, but she was so proud to know that she could have gone.
It was a fun time this summer! I met some great new friends and the kids learned a LOT about swimming. They will do it again next year. And we can't wait!
Here are some shots from the season...
this is the last meet that all 5 of them won heats!
great time and good friends!
